Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program Brochure

Position yourself as a research leader of tomorrow

Canada is building world-class research capacity by recruiting top-tier postdoctoral researchers at an internationally competitive level of funding and positioning them for success as the research leaders of tomorrow. These prestigious two-year fellowships, worth $70,000 per year, are open to both Canadian and international researchers who have recently completed a PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree. Seventy fellowships will be awarded each year.

“The Banting fellowship has opened opportunities not only for research and academic discourse, but also to share information about the communities that have supported me.”

Dr. Heather Bliss, Banting Postdoctoral Fellow in Linguistics, University of Victoria

A different kind of fellowship

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is unique in its emphasis on the synergy between applicants and research institutions.

Applicants have already demonstrated exceptional research results, are recognized as emerging leaders in their field and have the potential to launch an international-level, research-intensive career.

Research institutions hosting these applicants are able to demonstrate their commitment to the applicant's success through synergy with institutional strategic priorities, a supportive research environment and professional development opportunities.

Applicants must apply in close collaboration with an eligible research institution at which they would hold the fellowship.

“Support from the Banting fellowship means that I have more time to explore my diverse areas of interests and freedom to decide on my own projects. This fellowship has also helped me in building the networks in Canada that will be crucial in my career.”

Dr. Jaana Vapaavuori, Banting Postdoctoral Fellow in Chemical Engineering, University of Montreal

Strong applicants with the resources and support to succeed

Successful applicants will be selected on the basis of three criteria:

“People recognize the dedication and innovation needed to become a Banting fellow, and this recognition can open doors all over the world.”

Dr. Mohsen Jamali, Banting Postdoctoral Fellow in Systems/Computational Neuroscience, Harvard University
